About this speaker
Sarah Tavis and Jennifer Berney are writers and teachers with over 40 years of combined experience working with writers of various ages, backgrounds, and levels. Together, we write a weekly newsletter about healing and creative process, The Scrap Heap, and are interested in building a network of writers who engage through collaboration and play.
Sarah’s essays and poetry have appeared in several anthologies, literary journals, and chapbooks, including, most recently, the anthology Daring to Breathe: Stories of Living with the Foreverness of Grief. She is a founding member of The 3rd Thing, an independent publisher of necessary alternatives.
Jenn’s book, The Other Mothers, a memoir of queer family-building, was a finalist for the Washington Book Award. Her essays have appeared in Longreads, Outside, Wired, The Offing, and many other places.
A new session of Joyful Practice for Dark Times, our eight-week/virtual (Zoom) workshop, starts the first week of October. This generative workshop offers an approach to writing and art-making that centers collaboration and play. In this time of darkness and uncertainty, we’ll come together to build community and deepen our creative practice through writing and sharing. You can get more information and register here.
